CLIENT VALIDATION

 

Francis is a certified coach in BJ Fogg's Tiny Habits program. 50000 people LEARNED BJ's METHOD.

 

THERE ARE ABOUT 200 certified coaches similar to francis & we are validating how well the product works in this specific niche

 

HYPOTHESIS: CHAT IS A MORE ENGAGING WAY FOR CLIENTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH COACHES

 

VALIDATION: BEFORE BUILDING anything FRANCIS FAKED the chat functions via whatsapp.

 

RESULT: compared to the usual communication channel for coaches (EMAIL) chat is far more engaging. Clients interacted more with the coach & felt closer to the coach.

 

COACH VALIDATION

 

DOGFOODING: Francis is a coach & is building the app to fulfill his needs first & FOREMOST. FOR HIS OWN COACHIN NICHE THE APP WORKS FINE. BUT WHAT ABOUT OTHER COACHES?

 

AUDIENCE: we wanted to validate the concept with coaches besides francis so we got in touch with coaches via a closed facebook group for people who followed the certification course. 200 coaches in the group. 10 interviewed

 

HYPOTHESIS: coaches want to use chat with their clients.

 

METHOD: we sent an image of a fake chat interaction to coaches with a couple of automation features highlighted (daily reports & pre-scheduling messages.

 

(IN)VALIDATION 1: coaches typically are NOT USING CHAT WITH THEIR CLIENTS RIGHT NOW. EVEN WHEN THEY THINK CHAT MAY GIVE BETTER RESULTS & INCREASE CLIENT ENGAGEMENT. THEY WANT TO USE CHAT BUT RIGHT NOW THEY DON'T!

 

(IN)VALIDATION 2: WHEN ASKED WHY THEY DON'T USE CHAT THEY bring up tooling: THEY CAN AUTOMATE THE DAILY EMAILS THEY SEND OUT BUT THEY CAN'T DO THE SAME FOR CHAT.

 

(IN)VALIDATION 3: chat use seems to be really dependent on AGE & TYPE OF COACHING THEY PROVIDE. LIFE COACHES are vastly more likely to use online chat-based coaching than PERSONAL TRAINERS

 

FEATURE VALIDATION

 

WE SHOWED TWO MAIN AUTOMATED interaction patterns: daily automatic habit reports & pre-scheduled messages.

 

DAILY REPORTS: positive feedback because it maps 1-on-1 with something they already do in a different way (aSKING USERS TO SEND DAILY REPORTS VIA EMAIL)

 

PRE-SCHEDULED CONTENT: less interesting than daily reports because they fear that users will perceive them as spammy. They prefer directly interacting with users.

 

CONCLUSIONS

 

START IN RIGHT NICHE: lifestyle coaching seems to be the more interesting vertical to go after initially.

 

KEEP IT SIMPLE: just having daily reports will be enough initially.
